With Christmas under 3 weeks away, I thought it would be nice to think about what gifts I would love to get this year. After 20 minutes at Amazon.ca, I’ve come up with a quick list of books and DVDs. It’s a whole range of stuff, from that awesome 6 season box set of Seinfeld to Italian cookbooks.

Other great things to have include a nice big LCD monitor to replace my aging Dell/Sony 21″ CRT, blinging new 2.1 speakers so I can move my Logitech Z-680s out to the living room, and a decent set of cookware for the kitchen. I’m really surprised at how expensive cookware is. I chanced upon a display of some fancy Jamie Oliver cookware at the Bay a couple of weeks ago, and I was stunned at the $600 price tag. I wonder if it is really worth $600, or just a ploy by Mr. Oliver and his marketing team.

But seriously, isn’t Christmas is more about the spirit of the season, rather than getting a gift-giving extravaganza. Therefore I am surprised at the decision taken by several megachurches in the US to close doors on Christmas Day (which falls on Sunday this year), as they anticipate a low turnout. It totally goes against anything I ever heard in school chapel sessions growing up. Guess times are changing!
