Suspension of disbelief

I was watching some HK drama called Split Second earlier this evening after dinner and it really took some serious suspension of disbelief to really watch it. This detective gets shot near his stomach, but instead of getting help when his fellow policemen come along, he waves them away and goes off in search of some street hawker crush of his. Now he’s wearing a suit and he takes off the jacket to cover the wound and stumbles to the hawker stall and sits down. Despite his obvious discomfort (and he is clutching his sides… come on!), she does not have the presence of mind to find some help. They end up sharing some sappy moment together, before he staggers off again to find some flowers for her.

Upon reaching a florist, he drops to one knee (presumably because of the massive blood loss) but manages to fend off the florist who merely asks if he needs help. I’m pretty sure if anyone saw a person clutching his side with blood dripping down would call for help pretty quickly, but she just walks off when he groans out a “no thanks” to her. He finally chooses some flowers but unfortunately before he can get back to her, he collaspes and the flowers get soaked with his blood in the closing shot. Meanwhile she’s just waiting for her Prince Charming to return with flowers.

Moral of the story: Get help before flowers!

I recommend watching To Catch The Uncatchable, humourous and entertaining rather than implausible and corny.
