Sweet Obsession

I’m not really a huge fan of dessert (I can do without it), but I recently tried a dessert place called Sweet Obsession along 16th Ave and came away pretty satisfied. Their hours are kinda variable though, they closed at midnight on the Friday that we went. Esther and I did see people coming in at 1145 though, so they might just stay open till everyone leaves.

Apart from a beautiful display case of cakes, they also serve an assortment of coffees, teas and baked goods (which are probably from Trafalgar’s next door as they are both owned by the same person). The cakes aren’t cheap, especially if you are used to Chinese bakeries. A slice of anything goes for $4.95, while whole cakes range from $26 for a 6″ to $50 for 10″. Definitely a level (or two) above what I usually eat!

HedgehogCheesecakeI was tempted by many of the cakes on display, but in the end I chose a slice of chocolate marble cheesecake and a chai latte to go with it. Esther had a slice of hedgehog with a cafe mocha. The drinks came first, and they weren’t too warm. The cakes were very nice though. Both cakes came with this thick chocolate sauce that tasted… decadent. The cheesecake isn’t like the light fluffiness slice might get at Cheesecake Etc. but rather it tasted heavy and full of chocolate. The accompanying chocolate sauce just made it even better. The hedgehog was the opposite, the sponge cake was extremely light, with a very nutty hazelnut cream. I enjoyed them both.

Is it worth a return visit? I would say yes, just to try all the different cakes, but I’d definitely hold off on the drinks. They don’t mix well with the cakes and just act to confuse your tastebuds. 2 slices of cake will set you back just $10 + tax + tip. That’s pretty good for a sinful way to end your day!

Well you get all that good food in Singapore! Fair exchange I suppose. :) I’ve never had good cake in Singapore though, but then I usually end up in the local Four Leaves or Bengawan Solo. I’m definitely not a fan of those cakes.
