Go Fish

Esther and I have been craving for some good fish and chips, so when I read about this little place called Go Fish next to Granville Island, we took advantage of the sunny weather yesterday to check it out. If you don’t know where Go Fish is, join the gang! I had absolutely no idea how to get there, but Google Local came to the rescue. There isn’t much parking available, so it might be easier to park at Granville Island and walk west along the waterfront until you get to Fisherman’s Wharf. It’s only a 5-10 minute walk at most, and your car won’t get splattered by bird crap (mine did!).

The place itself is just a little 3 man operation. Besides fish and chips, they also have oysters in salads and burgers, fish tacos, as well as seasonal specials. The specials on the day we went were a Thai-style coconut curry soup with yam and salmon, as well fries in a tomato curry sauce. Despite all the tempting specials, we were there for the fish and chips, so that was what we got. You get to choose from 3 kinds of fish, all of which I believe are sourced locally from the wharf right next to the place. We chose to share 3 pieces of halibut and chips, and an oyster for Esther.

After a short wait, the food arrived. Served in a bamboo dim sum container, the food was just waiting for us to devour it! The halibut was extraordinarily fresh, with a delicate layer of batter on top. The fries/chips didn’t disappoint too. Lightly salted, it made for excellent munching with the ketchup. The coleslaw was equally delicious. It has an Asian twist to it, with sesame oil used as a dressing. The only item I didn’t like was the tartar sauce, I found it somewhat eggy (I don’t eat eggs) but Esther loved it.

An absolutely satisfying meal then, the place was pretty crowded despite the fact that it snowed the day before and it was still quite chilly. I can only imagine the crowds in summer, just watch out for the birds!

They don’t serve fresh fish? I never knew that! But the fish and chips at Steveston isn’t too good once you try this. Closer to your place too! :D
