CIMG2913It’s that time of the year for all the graduation dinners to take place, and Esther and I headed down to the Four Seasons Hotel in downtown for the Commerce Grad Dinner for the class of 2006. Although the cocktails started at 6, we got there too early and ended up sitting around in some awfully comfortable couches and just people watched as people filed in.

As both of us only had beef pies and some sushi (weird combo eh) for lunch, we were both starving once we got there. We didn’t even know the menu until we got seated! The night’s menu consisted of:

  • Roast cauliflower with candied onions and parmesan cream
  • Roasted chicken breast with truffled mushroom risotto, french beans Provencal
  • Triple chocolate black out cake with raspberries

While waiting for the food, we headed around the ballroom, taking a huge number of pictures in the process… the entire gallery of pictures can be found here.

The food arrived just in time to keep us alive! I definitely did not have high expectations for the food, but it was actually not too bad considering they had to serve a whole ballroom of people. The soup was somewhat bland, more onions would have made it much better (but probably would cost too much). The chicken breast was really juicy, with tasty seasoned skin. The risotto was equally satisfying, full of mushrooms and a good accompaniment to the chicken. The sauce on the plate was good too, both of us slurped up every last drop! The cake was the most disappointing dish, the cake was awfully dry and crumbly, and not very enjoyable at all.

Going to events like these isn’t about the food. It’s all about having a ball of a time with people you’ve spent the last few years with. I hope everyone enjoyed themselves, I know I did!
