I noticed this interesting Wired article while browsing /. today. Basically scientists have mixed DNA from roundworm into pigs, and the resulting bacon has loads of omega-3 fatty acids, just like salmon. This could mean great things for meat lovers everywhere. IHOP could do rake in the bucks by extolling the healthy virtues of bacon alongside the greasy eggs and overly sweetened pancake syrup. I look forward to the day when bacon is healthy and part of everyone’s recommended diet, much like how something like cereal is now. It’s probably not going to happen anytime soon (especially with the growing amount of organic retailers around now), but one can dream right?
Not a fan of bacon? No problem! The article goes on to say that companies like Monsanto and DuPont are developing omega-3 producing crops for healthier cooking oils. GM or not, I don’t care how healthy it is as long it tastes good!
