I was just reading up on Google News this morning when I noticed a little article in the Canada section about an abduction of a millionaire’s son. Upon closer inspection, the accompanying picture looked familar. A quick glance through the article in the Globe and Mail confirms my suspicions!
Little is known about Mr. McMynn, who recently attended the University of British Columbia. Some of his work is posted in the “hall of fame” section of the website for a computer graphics course that he took in the winter of 2005.
The previous year, he was awarded a government contract to work for NGRAIN (Canada), a Vancouver-based company that develops computer simulations for the Canadian military and defence contractors. A local media report quoted a member of the McMynn family as saying that Mr. McMynn was recently interviewed for a job with Microsoft. A spokeswoman for Microsoft Canada declined to comment yesterday.
Mr. McMynn is also an accomplished badminton player. The family belongs to the Vancouver Lawn Tennis & Badminton Club, and in its February, 2005, newsletter he was congratulated for winning the consolation singles and doubles titles at the Campbell River Open.
I remember seeing him in class, sometimes with his badminton racket. It’s crazy that such a thing can happen in broad daylight. According to reports, the abductors boxed him in and grabbed him away at gunpoint. At least his girlfriend who was in the car wasn’t abducted and managed to call 911 ASAP. Nevertheless, my thoughts are with the family right now… they must be going through an extraordinarily difficult time now and I sincerely hope that Graham will be found safe and well.
