IMG 6098IMG 6103The weather is slowly getting good over here in Vancouver, so Esther and I couldn’t resist going taking advantage of that and heading down to Go Fish again. Since we went during lunch hour, it was pretty packed. After some fruitless searching for a spot in Granville Island, we got a parking spot right away at the wharf (WTF!), but nevertheless we had to wait a while for a table… we went ahead and placed our orders anyway. We decided to stick with pretty much the same thing as last time, we got halibut and chips to share, and I decided to try a fish tacone (more on that later). The special of the day was a tomato bisque soup with swimming scallops. Now if you don’t know what swimming scallops are, they are basically the entire edible portion of a scallop. Not just the little cute round pieces you usually get, but the works. They taste a little stronger than the regular scallop but they are commonly found off the coast of BC so it’s somewhat of a local delicacy I suppose.

IMG 6102IMG 6101Shortly after we got a table (a nice big one too!), the halibut and chips arrived. Today’s batter wasn’t as light and crisp as the first time, a little soggy but to me the fish was even better than before. Absolutely fresh tasting, it almost feels like they caught the fish that very morning! I still don’t like the tartar sauce, probably down to the egginess of it but I find the fish so tasty by itself I don’t even use any sauces when eating it.

IMG 6104The tacone didn’t fail to please too. The reason why its called a tacone is because well… it is a cone-shaped taco. It’s basically grilled salmon and some of that delicious sesame oil coleslaw, together with a couple alfafa sprouts wrapped in a little flour skin (I think it might be Indian naan bread, but I am not sure). I really enjoyed this, everything came together very nicely, from the lightly toasted skin, to the chunks of salmon, to the alfafa(!) and even the little touches like the little chillies stuffed in between the layers of naan to provide a spicy kick to the overall dish.

I really like this place. Everyone go try it… especially the crowds start pouring in during summer!
