South Korea (or as FIFA call them, the Korea Republic) managed to come back from conceding a goal from their opponents Togo. Substitute Anh Jung-Hwan came off the bench to score the winner and receive the Man Of The Match award too. In a group that also contains France and Switzerland, a win for the Koreans will do them much good, although it remains to be seen if they can replicate their amazing run from the 2002 World Cup.
As 54,000 people watched on in Stuttgart’s Gottlieb-Daimler Stadion, France failed to break their scoring drought at the World Cup Finals in a goaless draw with the Swiss. Despite the addition of promising midfielder Franck Ribéry to the starting lineup, the French did not produce many scoring chances. Their best chance came in the first half when Thierry Henry’s shot hit Patrick Muller’s hand, but the Russian referee ruled it as accidental.
Despite the draw, a good result against the Koreans in the next match should put the French in a good position to avoid their embarassing exit from the previous World Cup.
